Pets

Map of the West Midlands

The PADA (Pets Against Domestic Abuse) PAWS Project was set up because we recognised the importance of pets to families, particularly where children are concerned. Most refuges cannot accommodate pets, but rater than them having to be left behind when women and children need to leave a violent home, we will help find them kennels or alternative accommodation. We will also support families through outreach in ensuring their pets are safely accommodated if they need to move home. Once appropriate housing is offered, families can be re-united with their furry friends.

The RSPCA has reported that there is a very strong overlap between animal abuse and domestic violence. Pets are often used as tools in abusive dynamics. Yet pets are often a great comfort while women and children are living with domestic violence.
